Second, we’re thrilled to announce that Prof. Karl Steel from CUNY will deliver a guest lecture titled “Medieval Nonhumanisms: Animal Studies Outside the Classroom” on Monday 30 April. Steel’s first book is How to Make a Human: Animals and Violence in the Middle Ages. He co-edited “The Animal Turn,” a special issue of postmedieval. His next book, Medieval Nonhumanisms, on pets, feral children, sky burial, and oysters, is under contract with the University of Minnesota Press.
The lecture will take place at Baines Wing Miall LT (2.34) from 16:30-18:00. Prof. Steel will be focusing on “Bisclavret” by Marie de France: for a PDF of the reading please email Dominic O’Key or leedsanimalstudies@gmail.com.
